Our New Founders Programme provides bespoke start-up support for young entrepreneurs working in the creative sector.

We commission each organisation on the programme with a £3,000 grant to produce their own creative programme in collaboration with Beyond The Box, whilst providing mentoring and business support, whilst also connecting the entrepreneurs with industry professionals.

As part of the New Founder Programme 2023 we collaborated with three organisations, each with a clear vision for the impact they wanted to have, they are BOLD, Our Space and 1:100 Podcast.

You can read more about the collaborations below.

BOLD

BOLD is a new platform designed for curious minds. Created by Founder Chun-Li Reid, the platform aims to explore innovations, ideas and concepts that inspire people to look at architecture through the sensory experience of taste.

With the understanding that architecture is made up from many elements from our surrounding environments, which come together to give each of us an unique experience, BOLD is exploring the relationship between taste and the built environment.

Through our collaboration on the New Founders Programme, we explored how food could be used to connect to the very fabric of communities, working in partnership with community kitchen’s across East London to film four special episodes of ‘Cooking with An Architect - dubbed the People’s Pavilion Edition’, with the final episode of the series being filmed live at the People’s Pavilion 2023 with RIBA President-Elect Muyiwa Oki .

1:100 Architecture Podcast

The 1:100 Architecture Podcast features seven women of colour who are catalysts for change in the field of architecture. Their mission is to empower individuals to embrace their uniqueness, creativity, and innovation with confidence. Through the 1:100 Architecture Podcast, Youtube, and social channels, they offer authentic and relatable content, design tips, and conversations, shedding light on often overlooked topics through interviews with industry professionals, specialists, and emerging talents.

In 2023, the founders expanded their reach to the broader creative sector by collaborating with various organisations. As part of the New Founders project, the team conducted public interviewing workshops and were commissioned to create a short film titled "What's Your East London?" This project involved working with a group of young people to uncover the hidden stories of East London.

Additionally, two team members joined Beyond The Box and a collective of aspiring young architects at the La Venice Biennale who won the People's Pavilion 2023 award. During the event, the 1:100 Architecture Podcast team curated an in-depth vlog of the experiences shared by members of the cultural producers, then went onto conduct interviews with notable social architects such as Diébédo Francis Kéré (Kere Architecture), Paul Karakusevic (Karakusevic Carson Architects), Stephanie Edwards (Urban Symbiotics), Akua Danso (Co-Founder of Black Females in Architecture), , Muyiwa Oki (RIBA President-Elect) and Hanifah Sogbanmu (Multi-disciplinary Artist).

Our Space

Our Space is a new Social Enterprise connecting 14-21 year olds with creative industry leaders through workshops & events. Lead by Founders Daniel Poku-Davis and Max Mackay, they established Our Space to address the cutbacks to art and design from central government, leading to a reduced ability for young people to branch out into the creative industries.

Thorough our collaboration on the New Founder Programme, the team curated a programme of workshops and events aimed at building practical design skills that gave young people the ability to interact with industry leaders and explore a number of design disciplines whilst building vital support networks.

The team hosted their workshops at Morris + Company’s studio on Mare Street in Hackney, with their final workshop taking place during the People’s Pavilion Festival 2023.
